Lessons from the Voice Part 2: The Importance of Receiving Support and Supporting Others

The talent we get to see on The Voice can be mind blowing. I love watching the artists and hearing their stories.  But next to watching the artists, I love watching their families and friends.

They wait in the wings while the artist takes the stage, and it's almost like you can see their heart pounding in their chest as they hold their breath, hoping and praying and pleading for the judges to turn their chair for their loved one on stage.

I don't think I've ever seen a performer on The Voice without at least one friend or family member there supporting them and believing in them.

Having someone who supports and believes in your talents and dreams and believes that you are capable of great things, that is an incredible blessing and gift to have.

Unfortunately, we often live up to what people say about us or believe about us. All it takes is one person to crush our spirit, but all it also takes is one person who believes in us to give us the drive to keep on going. Those encouragers and supporters - they are our Godsends. They often don't realize how important they really are.

They are the unsung heroes quitting their jobs and moving across the country for their kids, carrying their gear, practicing with them, encouraging them, cheering them on when they succeed, and lifting them up when they fall down.

Very few, if any, great or successful people ever reached their goals without at least one person in their life rooting for them.

For me that person is my husband. He's always there to carry my gear and tell me that I can build this business and be successful. He believes in me even when I don't believe in myself, and I know that this goal of mine wouldn't be happening without his support.

It's important that we have these people in our lives, but it is equally important that we give that support to others. Don't let competition, or jealousy, or pride keep you from supporting your loved ones and their dreams and also other business owners and creatives. Would you rather be that person that crushed a spirit or helped it fly? Let's take a lesson from The Voice coaches and support others even if they are in our same field and may outrun us one day.
