The World's Easiest Homemade Pizza Dough

First off know that I would not be sharing this recipe with you guys unless it was quick and easy, Although, not my motto for life, quick and easy does tend to be my motto in the kitchen.

Any recipe that has yeast in it, I tend to run away from. Bread making really is an art form, and has always intimidated me. This dough, though, is so easy to whip up and seriously only takes about 10 minutes of your time to mix together and than you let it rise and store it in the fridge until you're ready to make your pizzas! This recipe will make four individual pizzas or you can spread it out in flat in a pan to make a couple of larger ones. It's from the Mediterranean Cookbook that I got for Christmas.

Friday nights are pizza nights around here. Having this designated pizza night makes for one less meal I have to plan for during the week. By Friday night I'm not motivated to cook. I just want to relax on the couch with the hubs and watch some Netflix.

These pizzas, though a little more work than the delivery guy or the frozen kind from the store, taste so much better and make me feel better knowing that they're healthier and don't contain all the preservatives. I make the sauce and the dough up either on Thursday night or Friday morning, and than once Kendall gets home from work we have fun making our own pizzas together and than settling in to eat them while we binge on Parenthood or watch a movie. Also, I make our pizzas with white wheat flour or wheat flour, and they are super filling and satisfying. Kendall's not hungry an hour or two later and scrounging around for more food, so that's definitely a win in my book.

The recipe for the sauce is originally from the Skinny Taste cookbook, which I also got for Christmas and am loving. You can find the recipe online here. I'll be sharing the tweaks I make to it next week.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 2- 1/4oz packages fast-action dried yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 1/1 cups of tepid water

DIRECTIONS

  • Mix the flour, salt, and yeast together in a medium size mixing bowl
  • Add the oil and water, and then mix to make a dough. The dough will most likely be very wet. Keep adding flour about 1/4 cup at a time until it starts to pull away from the sides and form a ball.

  • Once it reaches that point, flour a surface on your counter to knead the dough on and add flour to the dough as needed to form a ball. You don't want it to be too try. though. The original recipe says to kneed the dough 10 minutes, but I never do. I maybe kneed it 2 minutes at the most just to make sure the dough is not too sticky and forms a cohesive unit so to speak..
  • Place the dough back in the bowl and cover with a towel or plastic wrap and let it rise for 2 hours or until the size has about doubled.

  • Punch it down when you're ready to cook it and give it a few more kneeds and than divide it into four equal parts

  • Flour your palm and use it to flatten your dough into a circle or as close to a circle as you can. Can you tell which one is mine and which one is Kendall's? ;)

  • Spread your sauce on top and top with your favorite toppings
  • Cook at 400 degrees for 20 minutes

Kendall, being the manly man he is, always does some kind of meat lovers pizza and likes to add some pineapple chunks to it. I'm super basic and like throwing some tomato slices on mind and sprinkle some Greek or Italian seasoning or basil and a little extra sauce on top.
